Children and Young People

The Children and Young People theme is managed by the Joint Management Group of Dundee's Integrated Children's Services and full details can be found on the dedicated Integrated Children's Services website.

The Children and Young People aims can be found in Dundee's Integrated Children's Services Plan 2013 - 2017 (1MB PDF)

Our aims are based on the national Getting It Right For Every Child approach where we want to ensure "that every child and young person in Dundee is Safe, Healthy, Achieving, Nurtured, Active, Respected, Responsible and Included."

Out current priority areas are:

  • children in their early years (including early learning and childcarer)
  • school exclusion and how to improve achievement
  • keeping children safe, particularly those who are affected by substance misuse
  • promoting healthy living, play and physical activity

In order to achieve improvement in the above priority areas, it is essential to focus on:

  • shifting the balance from crisis intervention towards early intervention
  • engaging, consulting and listening to children, young people and their families
  • developing the role and involvement of communities
  • further developing joing approaches and partnership working

We achieve the above through building successful 'local partnerships' across city Council Departments, NHS Tayside, Police Scotland, Voluntary Organisations and the private sector.
